Aquaponics

The collapse of fish species has serious implications for a world population heavily dependent on marine life as a major source of protein. Supply of this resource in both the developed and developing world is a critical issue of human health and survival.  Industrially raised fish, or aquaculture, has proven controversial (waste, adaptation, mutation, etc.) and many press and consumer organizations have actively campaigned against such products.

In this episode of World Ocean Radio, host Peter Neill will discuss aquaponics, which unites aquaculture with hydroponics in a mutually advantageous cycle of production with two resultant separate and useful products: vegetables and farm raised fish. The concept of aquaponics could provide a response to a powerful human need and serve successfully the possibility of a sustainable ocean.
